Awesome New Republic ft. Leighton Meester - Birthday

"Birthday" was originally written and recorded by producer Nick Scapa in conjunction with Awesome New Republic. The song -- with lyrics like, "just listen to these words I say / This is not a game I play / With just any other guy" -- was meant to be sung by a pop princess. Leighton Meester took a stab at it and recorded a version earlier this winter, but it was just a trial demo, and it isn't hers to release -- damnit, Blair!

Michael John Hancock (lead singer of Awesome New Republic) has also recorded the single and adopted it as his own. MJH's vocal range allows him to hit the high notes while still retaining his machismo. "Birthday" has become the first, and already released, single for their new CD "Rational Geographic Volume I," dropping April 14 on Honor Roll Music.

Incidentally Leighton Meester, who's working on her own solo album!

Cobra Starship have been working with American Idol rookie judge Kara DioGuardi on some tracks. Last week, MTV also reported that Cobra have roped in none other than Gossip Girls' Blair Waldorf herself, Leighton Meester. The trio have been working on a remix for a song titled 'I Make Good Girls Go Bad'.

For Cobra fans, this collabo isn't much of a surprise seeing as Gabe is a known fanboy of the Gossip Girl TV series. Here's what he had to say about it:

"CAN YOU BELIEVE I GET TO DO A SONG WITH BLAIR WALDORF?! It's no secret that I am a HUGE Gossip Girl fan. (On tour, our fans bring me copies of the episodes I am missing so I can stay caught up)," Saporta wrote. "A couple months ago, I heard a rumor that Leighton was working on a record, and I went to sleep that night dreaming of what it would be like to do a song with her. Next morning (afternoon, actually) I wake up to find out my dreams are coming true! Some people made phone calls to some other people, then, shazam! I'm on a plane to LA to record with my boo. I knew I had the perfect song for her too: 'I Make Good Girls Go Bad'."
